Makenna's Tinkerbell Birthday Party

Makenna enjoyed her first friend birthday party this year. Six little girls attended the party as well as Maryn and Makenna. Makenna picked a Tinkerbell theme probably 6 months before her actual birthday and we had a blast designing/picking out the cake and decorations. The party went amazingly well! All the girls played well together and everyone had a good time! Makenna was a gracious host and loved every second of having all of her friends celebrate with her! It was a very simple party... we played musical chairs, bean bag toss, simon says, and duck duck goose. They also played on the swingset and dressed up as princesses in the basement. And it couldn't be a birthday party without cake and presents :)

Standing in line for the bean bag toss.

Playing duck duck goose.

The long-awaited Tinkerbell cake! It was beautiful! Makenna scoured the internet for hours to find exactly what she wanted and this is how she described it to our cake lady :)

Everyone digging in to their cake and ice cream.

Devouring her chocolate cake and vanilla ice cream! This kid LOVES her chocolate cake (and she doesn't get that from either of her parents - yuck!)

Makenna - Birthday Dinner

We did things a little differently this year for Makenna's birthday. Josh and I decided that 5 years old was old enough to finally have a friend party so we gave Makenna the option and of course she jumped at the chance! So instead of the huge family party we typically throw every year, she had a friend party on Saturday and her grandparents came over for dinner on the actual day of her birthday. Makenna requested hamburger pizza for dinner, we had a veggie tray with all of her favorite veggies and she helped me make Oreo cupcakes (the big cake was being saved for the friend party). It was a very nice, laidback evening and the girls enjoyed some extra special attention from their grandparents.

Makenna with her new Mary Poppins' dolls from Poppy and Peepie! Mary Poppins is one of her favorite movies!

In typical Makenna fashion, she was so good about sharing everything with Maryn and including her in on the present opening fun!

Checking out all the new stuff!

I love how my kids get so excited over the simplest things! Makenna showing off her new Tinkerbell band-aids!

Blowing out her candle on her Oreo cupcake. Maryn wanted to sing "Happy Birthday" to her over and over and over...

Makenna - 5 Years Old

All about Makenna at 5 years old!!!

Nicknames: Kenna, Nenny, Nenners, Nenner Benner, Nen, Buddy, Peanut (Nenny is by far the most common and is pretty much the only thing Maryn calls her)
Weight & Height:Tall with a thin, athletic build. I'll have the numbers after her doctor's appointment on Friday.
Hair: Long blond hair that always seems to be messy. She's getting better about letting me pull it back but would still prefer to have it down. Has a few too many bangs right now because some lady at Cost Cutters took it upon herself (without asking) to chop her a full set of bangs. Ugh.
Favorite foods: Makenna's appetite always fluctuates. Right now she is eating large quantities of food and isn't really picky at all. She got to pick her favorite meal for her birthday dinner and picked pizza. But she also enjoys trying new foods and tried sushi for the first time recently (and liked it!). She also recently discovered Oreos and thinks they're awesome, especially in ice cream.
Favorite Drink: She still drinks milk, water and watered down apple juice most of the time, but thinks it's the coolest treat in the world to drink some of Daddy's gatorade.
Favorite toys: Her bike. She rides back and forth in front of our house between our two neighbors driveways all the time. She loves it. Other than that she just wants to be outside playing anything.
Favorite stuffed animal: Duckie
Favorite Books: The Fairy Berry Bake-Off, Franklin books, Tinkerbell books, Princess books
Bedtime: We start getting ready for bed between 7:30 and 8:00 and she is in bed shortly after. I always try not to let summer time affect our bedtimes but it always does.
Wake-up time: This answer has drastically changed. Ever since she got her tonsils out in April she has been having more sound sleep during the night, thus doesn't need to sleep later in the morning. She now gets up at a typical kid time - any where between 7:30 - 8:15.
Naps: Not since she was 2.
Favorite person: Any of her friends. She is a very social person.
Latest Accomplishment: Riding her bike steadily, hitting the ball without a tee, being able to pump her legs and swing by herself
Likes: playing outside, riding her bike, going to the movie store, comfy pants, playing with kids, anything to do with birthdays and planning parties, softball
Dislikes: Having her hair combed, pickles
Fears: It's probably Maryn getting in dangerous situations. She absolutely panics if Maryn gets in a situation she shouldn't be in (climbs on the counter, etc).
Favorite shows: Mary Poppins and anything Princess or Barbie from the movie store.
Health: Makenna had her tonsils out in April. The procedure went very well and she has been so much healthier since then. Her sleep apnea disappeared immediately. She's still struggling with eczema and was reacting to sunscreen earlier this summer, but we finally found a good sunscreen and seem to have it under control.

Splash Pad

Our family spent this absolutely lovely Sunday afternoon at the splash pad. You couldn't have asked for a more beautiful summer day! It was perfect! Makenna and Maryn had a blast running in the water while Daddy, Mommy and Maya relaxed on a blanket in the shade!!

Oh what fun a couple of cups can be!

Maya looking like she just ate a really BIG meal!!!

Maryn was cold and shivering most of the time we were there but she still didn't want to get out of the water!

Maya checking out her friend the caterpillar! They're really close friends since she chews on his face most of the time :)

Outside Play

Here are the girls and Josh having fun on the swingset one night after Maya was in bed.

I absolutely LOVE these first two pictures!!!

Cute Little Maya

I know I'm a biased mommy, but I truly think I have the cutest baby ever :) Doesn't every mom say that?! Look at cute little Maya!!!

Makenna's Softball

The weather has not cooperated with Makenna's softball schedule whatsoever this summer. Up until this past weekend, every game and all but two practices had been rained out. I figured I should take some pictures while I had the chance!

Yes, Makenna's the one standing there randomly holding her glove in the air! As with most of the other kindergartners in this league, they care more about what's going on around them than in the actual game. Makenna spent a good portion of the game messing with her eye because it was bugging her. She prefers playing a base rather than outfield so she can talk to the batter that is on base at the time :) She's so all girl!

Our big hitter! In this league, they give the kids 3 pitches. If they can't hit it in 3 pitches, then they let them hit off the tee. Makenna's first time up to bat she hit one of the three pitches and the second time up to bat she needed to use the tee (Josh would say that's the coaches fault for giving her bad pitches ;)

On base!! The great part is that she had absolutely NO clue about base running. With only two practices under their belts you can imagine how little these girls actually knew about softball! Josh and I had to yell at her and tell her where to go every time the ball was hit!

And the patient siblings hanging out at the park! Of course Maryn decided she needed to use the port-a-potty TWICE during the game. Yuck.
