Maya - 6 Months Old

All About Maya at 6 months old...

Nicknames: My My, Maya My, Maya Mae
Weight & Length: 16 lbs (50%) and 27 1/2 inches long (over 97%). She's been in 9 month clothes for awhile now.
Hair: Light brown fuzz all over her head. Reminds me of the other two girls when they were that age. The bald spot on the back of her head is starting to disappear.
Favorite food: She's still on breastmilk only along with a few veggies and rice cereal. She loves sitting in her high chair and eating and she does well with it. She was definitely ready start eating solids. Her favorite solid food is probably peas so far.
Favorite toys: rings, rattles, taggie toy, exersaucer ... honestly she's happy with anything she can shove in her mouth
Favorite stuffed animal: none yet
Bedtime: right around 7:00 pm
Wake-up time: She's been sleeping a lot longer lately. Typically gets up between 7:00/8:00 am. We had that nice 2 month spell when she was a baby of sleeping through the night, but not anymore. She gets up at least once a night and for a little while it was even twice. I was chalking that up to a growth spurt. But I guess she's sleeping for 12 hours so that's a long time to expect a baby to go without eating.
Naps: Maya's naps have finally fallen into a schedule. She takes a morning nap anywhere from 1 1/2 - 2 hours after she wakes up and will sleep for 1 - 3 hours. Then she's up for about 2 hours and goes down for an afternoon nap and will sleep anywhere from 1 - 3 hours, typically depending on how much she slept during her morning nap.
Favorite person: Mommy and Daddy
Latest Accomplishment: Eating solid foods in the high chair. Sitting on her own for a little while. She even scooted once!!! And got up on all fours!
Likes: baths, smiling at people, when Makenna and Maryn play with her
Dislikes: when I have to change her diaper in the middle of the night, when she doesn't get put down for a nap on time, train whistles, when the garage door shuts
What gets said about Maya most often: how smiley and happy she is, how pretty her big blue eyes are
Interesting Tidbit: Maya is constantly getting her chubby little legs stuck in the slats of her crib. Poor baby. One night recently I had to pull her out 3 times in one night! She also has a bump on the back of her head (she was born with it) that people are starting to notice more.

Eating Veggies

Maya has expanded her food choices to include some veggies now. She has tried green beans, peas and sweet potatoes so far. She loves peas and sweet potatoes but gagged on the green beans. She makes an absolute mess every time I feed her, but she loves to eat. She opens her little mouth so wide in anticipation of what's on the spoon! We still have issues with little bits seeping out every now and again, but overall she's really gotten the hang of it! The past few nights she's eaten an entire bowl with 1/2 rice cereal, 1/2 veggie!

Bed Head

Maryn woke up with some of the craziest bed head this morning! I just had to take some pictures to document it! Unfortunately I don't think the pictures actually capture the fullness of the mess on the back of her head. Just a note - Maryn also hit a milestone last night. She woke up in the middle of the night to use the potty!! She's woken up dry in the morning a few times, but has never actually gotten up in the night to go potty! I was so pumped!

Maya's 1st Solid Food

Maya tried rice cereal for the first time yesterday (5 1/2 mon old)! Makenna was so excited for her :) She documented the entire thing by taking lots of pictures with my camera! Maya did extremely well. She immediately started opening her mouth for the spoon and actually managed to make it through 3/4 of a bowl of cereal before she lost interest. She struggled in the beginning with the tongue thrust reflux thing, which pushed a lot of the cereal out on to her chin, but got the hang of it by the end.

Happy girl sitting in her highchair with no clue as to what's going to happen next!

Look of concern - "Mommy what's going on here?"

Now she's perplexed - "I'm not so sure about this!"

Now a look of interest - "Oh wait! That's good. I think I want some more!"

Trip To Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo

We spent a long weekend in Omaha this past weekend. The only thing on the agenda was Omaha's Henry Doorly Zoo and we made it there on Saturday. Luckily the weather cooperated beautifully and we had the perfect summer day for going to the zoo. Friday night when we got to town we enjoyed walking through the Old Market and had some Italian food for dinner. Our hotel absolutely rocked and Makenna and Maryn got to enjoy the pool twice while we were there! The girls were well-behaved and did so well. Maya even slept through the night one of the nights we were there! She's such a trooper!

If you ask the girls what they liked best about the trip they will without a doubt answer "train ride" or "skyfari." Unfortunately Miss Maya was terrified of the train. Here she is sitting happily on Daddy's lap before the train ride began. The loud piercing whistle noise the train makes every so often as it travels along made my baby scream like I have never heard her scream before. Luckily pretty quick into the trip they had to make a pit stop so Josh got off with Maya and walked the rest of the way to meet us there. What a great Daddy :) He'll do anything for his girls.

My favorite thing by far at the zoo was Gorilla Valley. They were so intriguing. I could watch any type of monkey for an extended period of time. It didn't hurt that they were extremely active and right up next to the glass and cages. One gorilla charged the glass towards a visitor, another was pounding his chest to mark his territory and the others were swinging around making a ton of noise. And I was seriously this close to this gorilla with just a pane of glass between us. He sat there deep in thought the entire time.

Daddy, Makenna and Maryn in the Lied Jungle. Awesome display! It's the first thing we went into and we spent a ton of time in there. Our favorite part was the 2 month old monkey hanging on his mama and chewing on her ear!

Doesn't this look like a postcard? This is the real deal and we were really this close to him!

Our good baby Maya at the zoo (getting changed on a picnic table!). She was laid back and happy the entire day! Even somehow took 2 1/2 hours worth of nap while we were there!

Once again, more monkeys. The orangutan display was awesome too because they were all swinging and jumping all over the place and making a ton of noise!

Me and my girls at the zoo!

Makenna and Maryn in the car for the long trip! It took us 5 1/2 hours for what should be a 4 hour trip. I think we stopped 4 times on the way home! But everyone did well and Maryn stayed dry in the car! We were a little worried about that one! She always picks the most inopportune times to tell us she has to use the potty!

My pretty baby in the car. She was so sick of that car seat by the end of the weekend. Can't say I blame her. Luckily she took some naps during the car ride.

Maya's Milestones

Maya has had a lot of firsts lately! She recently found her voice and has been jabbering up a storm! She also loves to roll all over the place which typically gets her stuck in funny positions in her crib. Sometimes it doesn't bother her, other times she'll scream at the top of her lungs. Here's an example of her getting stuck in the slats of her crib and not caring...

Still smiling!!

First time sitting in her highchair! She hasn't had any baby cereal yet, but we are planning on trying that out this week!

We recently bought Maya a Bumbo seat. She seems to really like it and does well in it. Much to our surprise on 7/25/09 (5 mon, 5 days old) she sat up by herself a few times, even up to a minute one time (I know because I counted!). Granted it was the hunched over baby sit, but she did it nonetheless!

Then just last night on 8/2/09 (5 1/2 months) she started scooting! She'll pick her little butt up off the ground and try to push herself forward. It is still a work in progress, but she's definitely there!

Summer Pics Update

Maya after her bath... about 5 months old

Sticking out her tongue!

Could her eyes get any bigger???!!!

Now that's the smile we all know and love!

Sister love! Maryn absolutely adores Maya and is very protective of her. If other kids come near her Maryn will hover over Maya (similar to this picture) and tell them "My Maya!" or "My Baby!"

The big 5 year old at our house! No one can make Maya smile or laugh quite the way Nenny can!

Fun in Daddy's hammock... until Maryn fell out a little while later :(

Classic picture! She'll hate me for this when she's older! She was sitting on the potty talking on her phone :)
