Girls, Girls Everywhere!

It is so incredibly difficult to get a good picture with a bunch of little kids all looking at the camera, and this proved to be true at Thanksgiving when we tried to get a picture with Poppy and Peepie and all of their granddaughters. It's a great picture of my parents, but Maryn is trying to escape and Eden is pre-outburst. All those precious little girls and there's another one coming in February! I think my Dad's getting used to having all females around :)

Happy Thanksgiving

I just wanted to wish all of my friends and family a Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone takes the time to thank God for all of their many blessings! I know that I have so much to be thankful for. Mostly these three people below and the little one in my belly...

Maryn's New Furniture

Despite the fact that we were all horribly ill with the flu this past weekend (Maryn had a barely noticeable case earlier last week), Josh decided to put together Maryn's new bedroom furniture. We weren't sure how Maryn would react to us moving all of "her" furniture into the baby's room and her getting new stuff, but she didn't seem to mind at all. Actually she seemed to enjoy it. Here are some pictures of her helping Daddy and her enjoying her new "bed" (actually it's the inside of the unfinished dresser but she thought it was her new bed for awhile). Enjoy her half-pajama/half-dressed look in these photos... we declared this weekend "jammie weekend" at our house since everyone was feeling so crummy.

Her room is now put together, I just want to add some finishing touches. I'll add more pictures when we get to that point.

Progress On The Basement

This may be of little interest to anyone else but us, but I wanted to document the progress they are making on our basement. We are one week down of living in construction. I was really concerned about it since the girls and I are at home all day, but so far it really hasn't been too bad. The noise is the main thing we notice, but we even seem to be able to block that out after awhile.

The "before" pictures:

Looking into our storage area by the bottom of the stairs. You can see all the new shelving Josh put up and all of our organization! It took a long time to get the mess that was scattered all over our basement into the storage area!

Storage area under the stairs and into the other side of the main storage area.

East side of the basement

West side of the basement

Now that I'm thinking about it these pictures really aren't the "before" pictures. I should've taken some before we spent hours and hours cleaning up all the junk that was down there.

The "after" framing pictures:

Looking at the bottom of the stairs and the new wall that will separate the storage area from the playroom. We created a landing of sorts at the bottom of the stairs and needed to figure out a way to incorporate that ugly maroon colored pole into our construction. When you immediately walk down you will be in the playroom so this little wall that curves around will turn into hidden storage space for toys! You will notice that extra storage space is a big theme in our basement.

Looking into the soon-to-be guest bedroom.

HUGE walk-in closet in the guest bedroom. One of the things I wanted was LOTS of storage and I got it!

Standing in the "playroom" and looking towards the bathroom (on the right), hall closet (on the far left) and hallway that leads to the guest bedroom.

Again me and my storage space kick... our new closet in the hallway.

Clouds, I'm Sorry, First Crush

As we were driving by some factories on the other side of town, Makenna was commenting about all the smoke/smog coming from the factories. All of a sudden she lights up and declares "Mommy, now I know where they make the clouds!!"

We are very big into taking responsibility for your actions in our house and making sure the appropriate parties apologize and hug whomever they offended (even if this means it's mommy or daddy apologizing). Anyway, apparently this concept has sunk in a little too well with Maryn. She seems to go over the top with her "I'm sorry's" and we try to tell her that she doesn't have to be sorry all the time. But with that said, for a young two year old she understands the concept of forgiveness and making up unlike any other little kid I've ever met. A few weeks ago, the girls were fighting over reading the same book at bedtime. As I came in Makenna's room to break up the action, I believe Maryn took a swipe at Makenna with the book. I just carried Maryn out of the room and tried to avoid the situation. We were sitting there rocking in Maryn's room and a few minutes later, Maryn jumps down and scampers away from me. She opens her door and I hear her heading for Makenna's room. I quick jump up, peak around the door and listen and see the most precious sight ever. Maryn ran up to Makenna, gave her a big hug and said "I'm sorry Nenny. Night night." I was so proud. I didn't say anything to her about apologizing to her sister or how what she had done was mean, but she knew that it wasn't right and had to make it okay with her sister.

Then yesterday at preschool Maryn was kind of standing in the way of the kid's coat closet. One of the mom's very politely said "Excuse me, can I get by?" And Maryn's reply was a sweet "I'm sorry, I'm so sorry." The mom just about melted and then told me "She's so sweet! What a polite 2 year old!" Looks like she is developing the sweet, warm heart that her older sister has as well.

Something we have noticed lately about Makenna is that she is starting to develop curls in the back of her hair. At first I just thought it was how she was laying on her hair at bedtime, but we have come to realize that her hair is actually growing curly in the back. The rest is still straight, just a few sections in the back are wavy. It looks like it's due to a few of her cowlicks in the back of her head. I'm sure she'll hate it as a teenager, but it sure is cute now.

So I guess you could say that our oldest has her first little crush. She has always been good friends with Reece, but just lately they seem to have a new fondness for each other (and according to his mom, the fondness is mutual). On the way home from Wednesday night church a few weeks ago, she was going on and on about Reece and everything they did together at church. She was quiet for awhile and from the back of the van I hear "Mommy I really love Reece. Do you get that?" Luckily it was dark out otherwise I'm sure she would seen me almost break into laughter. Well then the trend continued when Reece was at our house one day. These two interact like they are a married couple. Josh was even home for lunch at the time and agreed with me. But the best part was that I came walking through the living room and find Makenna on top of Reece headlocking him because he took her duckie!!! It was all in good fun and no one was being mean, but I couldn't believe it. And then yet again this week she out of the blue tells me that she loves Reece again. I asked her if she loves Reece like a friend or more than a friend and without hesitation she tells me "oh more than a friend mommy." Josh was there and he just turns every shade of red and tenses up immediately (in case you don't know, he is terrified of his girls dating). She then went on to say "I love him more than a friend because I go to church with him and play with him too, not just preschool." Okay so that's a little better. She still doesn't understand the concept of a boyfriend and I hope it stays that way. It's just a little peculiar that she's going through a "I don't like boys stage" but is glued to Reece's side.

Maryn and I have been attending a little kids art class for her while Makenna is at school. So far we've had one really good class where she enjoyed the activity and fully participated, but I think she's a little young yet. The first time she was beside herself because the building we go to is close to Daddy's work and she thought we were going to visit Daddy... therefore she was crushed by ending up at a class full of kids and no Daddy. Then this last time the craft involved Cheerios and she didn't understand why she couldn't just eat them all! Very frustrating for a 2 year old! Anyway, I think we'll take a break next week and then try again after that.

We are excited for next week... construction on our basement will finally begin! We have been planning on finishing our basement for a long time now and it is finally happening (just in time for the baby!). We are putting in a large play area/family room, bathroom and bedroom. I'm hoping it will keep a good portion of the toys out of my main living area (wishful thinking, right?). I'll try to post pictures as the construction progresses!

26 Weeks

I was doing really well at taking regular belly shots and somehow October happened and now I'm 6 weeks behind. Oh well. Here are the pictures of my belly at 26 weeks exactly! Photographs courtesy of Makenna Jo Budke :)

Miss ____ ____ Budke is doing very well (HA! We're not telling her name!). She is growing as desired and gets increasingly active everyday. My favorite time of the day is after the girls go to bed and I can sit down for a few minutes and enjoy her moving around inside of me! She is so predictable, as soon as I sit down at the end of the day she starts doing gymnastics in my belly! I can't wait to meet her. I'm so curious about her personality and what she looks like.

I've definitely been nesting and trying to get as much ready as possible for her arrival. We cleaned out the play room (which is going to be her new room) and painted it pink a few weekends ago. I've slowly but surely been collecting the clothes that will work for that time of year and bringing them up to her room, along with extra blankets and itty bitty baby stuff. Her new baby bedding arrived and now we are just waiting for Maryn's new bedroom set to show up so we can move the baby furniture into her room. It's all coming together and now we just get to wait for our little peanut to arrive!

As many of you already know, we've been dealing with a difficult situation over the past 7 weeks. This may be repetitive but I thought I should blog about it just for journaling purposes. In mid-September I was prescribed a medicine that is not meant to be taken by pregnant women. Luckily something inside of me was telling me it wasn't right so after only taking one dose, I called the doctor the next day to double check (after doing lots of checking on the internet and finding horrible things). My doctor had since gone on maternity leave but the doctor filling in for her said that I should stop taking that prescription immediately and yet another doctor in that same practice confirmed this again at my next OB visit. The good news is that I took way too little of the medicine to affect the baby - thank God. Well we have been on an emotional roller coaster over the last month trying to figure out what to do. I asked to be switched to another doctor within the same practice and that seemed to escalate things to a whole new level. At one point we were even under the impression that if we didn't agree to continue on with my doctor then we had to leave the practice all together. My dear sweet husband decided to take things into his own hands and called to tell them he didn't appreciate them doing this to his 6 month pregnant wife when it was their fault. I know he was nice to them but at the same time I think he scared the life out of them (or should I say lawsuit out of them???). Anyway, after weeks of praying and debating we met with my original doctor and the office administrator this morning. We were comfortable with many of the answers we received and I actually understand now why I was prescribed what I was prescribed. Unfortunately the other doctors that were so adamant about me not taking this particular medicine while pregnant didn't know the type of this medicine or the strength I was taking (which apparently makes a huge difference) and pretty much scared the life out of me. Couple that with my doctor being on maternity leave and an office administrator who took things a bit too far, and the whole situation just got a little out of control. We're still trying to figure out exactly where to take things from this point. It's really hard to switch doctors at 6 months pregnant and I'm not really sure I even want to any more (since I don't believe it was a competency issue anymore and I know my baby was never in danger). This has been so hard on me is because I absolutely love our doctor and I have mentioned that on this blog several times. The thought of leaving their office absolutely tore me up inside. Right now I'm leaning towards staying put through the rest of the pregnancy and re-evaluating the situation after the baby's born. But then again, I change my mind probably at least twice everyday. Any advice or suggestions are welcome at this point in time.

Trip To Chicago

Our family was able to make a quick trip into the Chicagoland area this weekend to visit my sister and her family for Eden's baby dedication. It was a great time and the girls have been looking forward to this for a long time now. Highlights of the weekend included staying in a hotel (the girls were overflowing with excitement when we got there!), swimming at the pool in the hotel, playing with Eden, seeing Eden's house (they moved to a new place this summer), riding the elevator at the hotel, making necklaces and bracelets with Aunt Nene, drawing with Uncle JT's fancy colored pencils, and spending time with family. The girls were real troopers despite the 5 hour and 15 minute drive each way (why is it that trips take so much longer with kids???) and totally getting off schedule. Maryn had her first day ever in her life of not taking a nap on Sunday (she wouldn't fall asleep in the car and we got home too late to nap) and boy did we pay for it!!! You don't realize how important naps are until you don't have one!

Maryn testing out the pool with Daddy!

Maryn "wimming", as she calls it. All morning long she just kept running around saying "I go wimming!" or "I go pool!" Her little legs couldn't run there fast enough when we finally got our swimsuits on!

Enjoying the water with Peepie!

Makenna's turn to swim! She had to practice jumping in several times!

It's so hard to believe that she's tall enough to walk in the shallow end of the pool all by herself!

Maryn was tuckered out after swimming! I found her all cuddled in our big bed after her bath.

My darling niece Eden! She has gotten to be so big! She will be 10 months old on the 16th of November. Where has the time gone!? She is crawling, pulling herself up, and walking along furniture like a pro already! Way to go Eden!

Eden with her beautiful Mommy :)

The whole reason for the trip - dedicating Eden to the Lord! Eden is a blessed little girl that she is being raised by two parents who understand the importance of raising her to love Jesus!

Okay so this probably isn't funny to anyone else, but Josh and I got so many good laughs out of this one. Makenna specifically asked to stop at "BK" (or Burger King) on the way home. Josh and I were baffled because we don't eat here (it makes me sick) and we've never talked to her about the restaurant, let alone referred to it as "BK". Advertising at work! Anyway, the girls were delighted because the BK in the town we stopped in had a play place as well as crowns. Maryn insisted on wearing her crown like this the entire time! She could care less that the prongs were poking her and were in her eyesight! Maybe it doesn't look that funny now, but in person it's a hoot. She continues to wear her crown incorrectly today even after being shown the right way numerous times. I guess she just has her own style!

Halloween 2008

We had a fun Halloween at our house, despite all the illness going around. Makenna had strep throat early in the week which included a bad cold and losing her voice and Maryn followed it up by getting what was thought to be strep later in the week (they didn't do the test, just gave her the meds based on everything she was exposed to and how her throat looked). Luckily Maryn's cold hasn't taken a turn for the worse like Makenna's did. Anyway, the girls were still able to participate in all the fun activities due to all the fun antibiotics they were on :)

Makenna had a Halloween parade and short program at school in the morning, TrueNorth had a Halloween party in the afternoon for the kids and then of course trick or treating in the neighborhood! It was a fun year for trick or treating with the beautiful weather! Maryn even seemed to really get into it, but got tired by the end. Our neighborhood really gets into Halloween... numerous parents were dressed in costumes, one house handed out hot dogs and hot chocolate to all the trick or treaters and parents, and another provided cupcakes for all the parents! It's fun to live in such a festive neighborhood!

All dressed up and ready to go to preschool! Makenna loved being Cinderella and her favorite part of the outfit was definitely the gloves!

Walking past mommy and Maryn for the Halloween parade! Look at that perfect princess wave!

Makenna's preschool class

Makenna surrounded by her two best friends at preschool - Hanna and Hannah! She was so excited when she got to school and found out they were princesses too!

Trick or treating at Daddy's office

Look at that cute little chicken! Makenna was excited Maryn was a chicken because "there are so many chickens in Cinderella!"

Maryn digging through a bowl of candy and I'm sure she picked a sucker... that's the only type of candy she seems interested in right now.

All dressed up for trick or treating!

Trust me, they did not want to sit down for these pictures!

Maryn even perfected her "bawk bawk bawk" to play the part of a chicken!

Oh Cinderella! Notice the glass slippers had been replaced with tennis shoes by this point in the day. She discovered she couldn't run as fast in glass slippers :)

Daddy and the girls leaving to go trick or treating! I think it's the first time in the history of Iowa Halloweens that Josh wore shorts trick or treating! He did stop home halfway through for some sweatpants but Makenna made it the entire time in short sleeves and was even sweating by the time she got home!

Makenna showing off her candy!

One last chicken shot!
