Summer Ouchies

So I thought June was full of medical issues... July has decided to keep up the pace.

Starts off the weekend of the 4th of July. Maya is slowly walking (two feet in front of me) on the sidewalk back to our neighbor's 4th of July party. Her feet got caught up underneath her and her nose caught her fall on the sidewalk. Immediately following, I thought her chin took the brunt of the fall but the next morning her nose was glowing red like Rudolph. Excellent example of cement burn :(

Over the course of that first week in July, Maryn gets up to go potty during her nap. She was the counter as support to help her get on the potty, her hands slipped and her nose lands smack on the very edge of the toilet paper holder. I found a very inconsolable 3 year old screaming on the toilet. It didn't break the skin, but it left a nasty looking welt that sent a bruise right up her forehead. This picture doesn't do this wound justice... it's a few days too late. The bruise is healed and the wound isn't as bad, but you get the idea.

And I guess I saved the most exciting for last... this past Saturday (7/10), Makenna was dancing and exercising in the living room. She tripped over her own feet and fell face first into the upper part of the brick on the fireplace. She came up with a bloody face. Josh was sure she had cracked the glass on the fireplace and that's why she was bleeding. Once we saw the wound, we figured out she had hit her forehead on the very edge of the brick and scratched her chin on the brick. There was a lot of blood but we were able to get it stopped fairly quickly. All three of the girls were crying and in hysterics. We loaded them up in the van and took a quick trip over to the Urgent Care clinic. The nurse told us she didn't think it needed stitches but the doctor disagreed. He said there was a wide gash at the center of the wound that would leave a scar if left untreated. He gave us two options: glue it together (which may or may not fix it and alleviate a scar) or stitches (which will hopefully produce little to minimal scarring). Despite the fact that it is the more painful option, we went with stitches. We knew she would thank us when she's 18. She was very brave (even with a lot of tears!) and Josh stayed with her through the entire procedure (as I waited in the waiting room with the other two). One of the best memories of this event will be Maryn shaking her finger and yelling at the fireplace "Bad fireplace! You hurt my sister!" They are so protective of each other.
